2 May 1999 | From 0130 to 0300 3 kittens were brought into this world by a very loving mother. The other 2 were born anywhere between 0300 and 1000...I fell asleep. |
2 May 1999 | 1st day in their new world. Sinder is very tired but relieved that the 1st part of the ordeal is over with. I hope that her habit of sitting on them when she climbs in and out of the box is not intentional as I will not always be here to move them around for her. Momma and the kittens seem to have their own language back and forth...although to me, it seems a bit repetitive... |
3 May 1999 | Sinder didn't think that the box I provided was suitable enough for her young; so, she moved them to my nightstand...I had no say in the matter. |
7 May 1999 | Fatma (my maid) saw them and told me "cok guzel" [chalk goozel] ("very good" in Turkish). She decided that Sinder deserved extra food for her efforts as mother. From what I was told, Sinder had no objection to the offer. |
8 May 1999 | 1 week old. There is one cat that has only 1 eye open. I'm sure the others will soon follow. Momma is still taking equal care of her young, but the sitting thing is still a problem. I have had no success in relocating them to a larger box. Thus far, there are no runts in the litter. |
12 May 1999 | Eyes have started to open on all of the kittens. Now that they have sight, they are working on that while body-and-head thing trying to keep the two in sync and make some forward progress. quite amusing to watch |
14 May 1999 | Started to finalize travel plans for Sinder and kittens for my departure to the US on 19990712. Delta airlines said that they had compassion for an active duty military member trying to transport Mother and babies to the states. They will let all 4 travel together in the same carrier as opposed to splitting them up into 2 different carriers. Thank you to Delta Airlines. |
15 May 1999 | Eyes are open on all of the kittens and they are starting to walk a little better. They get a few steps into it...start to shake...then give up. The nightstand real estate is starting to get very low as they are growing at an alarming pace. They are three times as big as when they were born. |
16 May 1999 | The kittens get their first taste of the living room. I brought them out one by one and let them pull themselves along the carpet with momma watching. Sinder kindly let me know with a barrage of meows when the kids were done having a good time. Again...I had very little say in the matter |
17 May 1999 | After accidentally leaving the closet door open all night, I went back to bed expecting to see 5 kittens...but I only saw 0. What followed was a frantic 20 minute search looking for the kittens only to find that they were moved to the closer shelf...about 3 feet above the ground. I promptly moved them back to their nightstand haven. Sinder was NOT happy...but I slept better. |
19 May 1999 | Left the closet door open (again!) and saw that she took them up there again. I was off work today so I decided to let them be. I padded the sides and opened a drawer in case one of them decided to take the plunge. About an hour later, I hear screams of death from the bedroom. Upon inspection, I found that one of the kittens ended up in the drawer and Sinder couldn't get to it. I removed the kitten and returned it to an elated mother...she seemed to be yelling at it. Again...I promptly moved them to the nightstand. |
20 May 1999 | Found out that Sinder was not happy with the arrangements of the nightstand anymore. She opted to have them under my bed. I didn't put up a fight...as they need to learn to walk soon anyway. |
22 May 1999 |
Kittens are walking around the room. They are getting used to all four feet working in tandem. Within a week, they should be trouncing around the apartment freely. |
27 May 1999 | 1st vet appointment. All 5 kittens (which are ALL male) and momma could not be doing better says the vet. The kittens, being almost 1 month old, are just about ready to be on their own diet. They have made my bedroom their own private playground. |
29 May 1999 | Another roll of pictures taken. Hope to have them posted soon. The kittens' eyes have started to get come color in them and they seem to be partial to the sunlight for their daily lounging...but then again...who wouldn't? |
31 May 1999 | Got a digital camera for my computer...More Pictures 1 2 3 4 |
2 June 1999 | Kittens all around the apartment. I can't keep up with them anymore. They have just started to eat hard food but they are still trying to nurse. They are old enough that they are finding their own hiding spots...their current favorite is behind my washing machine...until it starts that is. New Movies 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 |
3 June 1999 | Started to keep the bathroom door closed as they are constantly having to be scraped off the ceiling doe to the washing machine. |
5 June 1999 | The ordeal of shitting all over the place has begun. I am finding presents in ever corner of my apartment and the odor closely resembles an outhouse! |
8 June 1999 | Set up the 2nd litter box and started with new litter in both...lets see if this helps |
10 June 1999 | No more presents are being left by the 5 hellions...they are all over the place and it is getting harder and harder to keep up with them; although, I am up to the challenge. Sinder will walk around the apartment calling for them and I will corral them when we find them. |
11 June 1999 | The kittens have started to perfect the game of "King of the Hill" on the scratching post. Currently the black kitten that I am keeping is best at it but he takes a lot of cheap shots. More pictures and movies to follow soon. |
11 June 1999 | 2 of the kittens have moved on to the family that was gracious enough to give me Sinder in the first place. They received one of each color. Sinder noticed and quickly adjusted to the reduction of her family size. |
